Words that change with your organisation
Counselor OS calls the people you guide by a different name depending on what kind of organisation you are. It is the same screen and the same feature underneath.
| If you are a… | You will see | And your groups are called |
|---|---|---|
| School or college | Students | Classrooms |
| Company | Employees | Departments |
| Practice, agency or service | Clients | Client groups |
This documentation uses participant as the neutral word, because it has to speak to all three. Wherever you read "participant", read your own word.
Capacity and billing
Place — one unit of your plan's capacity. Approving somebody puts them in one.
Billed clients — the number that counts against your plan. In a practice it is active people plus anyone archived who is still inside their 12-month commitment. In a school it is simply the active students. See Approving people.
Seat — a licence for a counselor, not for a participant. Your plan includes a number of counselor seats; see Team and seats. One screen in the roster also uses "seat" loosely to mean a participant place — that is the same thing as a place.
The product names
Counseling Desk — the whole screen when you open a participant, and the place all of the below sit. The Planning Board is the surface you work on; NexProfile and NexPlanner are the two tools you open, read and come back from; NexPilot runs down the right, part assistant and part your line to the participant. One desk per counseling service.
NexProfile — the results of a participant's assessment: their interests, work values, strengths, and the occupations that fit them. See Reading a NexProfile.
NexPlanner — the set of four wizards that search for occupations and education routes. Its four modes are Learning Path, Job Hunt, Go Solo and Move Up. See NexPlanner.
NexPilot — the AI assistant that helps you prepare for and reason about a session. See NexPilot.
Planning Board — the work surface of the Counseling Desk, where occupations move from Suggestions to The shortlist to Goals. The desk opens on it once a plan is underway. See Working on the Planning Board.
The plan — the document produced from the agreed goals and signed by both of you. See The plan document.
Assessment words
Questionnaire — the instrument a participant answers. One screen calls the starting template a blueprint; it means the same thing.
Assessment — one instance of a questionnaire that you share and people take. It is also what groups people: everyone who takes the same assessment is in the same group. See Grouping people.
Access code — the short code somebody types to reach your assessment.
Roster words
Two independent things get called "status", and they answer different questions.
Membership status — Pending, Active, Archived. This is your relationship with the person and whether they occupy a place.
Pipeline stage — Not started, In assessment, Completed, In planning, Active plan. This is how far the work with them has got.
Somebody can be Active with a pipeline stage of Not started. The two do not track each other. See Participant statuses.
