Choices about your future start earlier than most people expect. Year 9 and Year 10 electives and senior subject picks can shape what's open to you after school, and it's easy to feel pressure to have it all worked out. A career quiz for students gives you a calm, low-pressure place to start by showing which interests, strengths and work values stand out for you.

Why a career quiz for students can make the next step easier
There's no single 'right' route in Australia. Uni with an ATAR, TAFE, VET in Schools, a school-based apprenticeship or a traineeship are all valid pathways, and NexRise™ treats them that way. Your report links your profile to real occupations so you can talk about the options with your parents or carers, your careers adviser or your student counsellor. It's especially handy if you live in a regional or remote area and can't easily visit campuses or try different workplaces.
NexRise™ is built on established career-interest and personality research, including Work Adjustment Theory, Holland's RIASEC model and Allport's trait structure. It's a way to explore ideas, not a test that decides your future. Learn more in our methodology.
Our Methodology

It draws on two big occupation databases, O*NET (1,000+ roles) and ESCO (3,000+ roles), and our team has worked on this technology since 2017. Your data is handled in a way that is aligned with the EU GDPR.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is NexRise™ for, and how long does it take?
NexRise™ is made for secondary school students and uni applicants aged 12-18, which is roughly Year 7 to Year 12 in Australia. It takes about 15 minutes. The questions use plain language, so you can do it on your own or sit down with your parents or carers and talk through the results afterwards.
Do I need an account to take the quiz?
No. You can start and finish the assessment without an account. After you've finished, you create a free account to save your results and open the full career report. That means you can see what the quiz is like before you share any details.
Is this career quiz based on real research?
Yes. NexRise™ is built on established career-interest and personality research. It draws on Work Adjustment Theory (Dawis and Lofquist, 1984), Holland's RIASEC model of vocational interests (Holland, 1997) and Allport's trait structure (Allport, 1937). It measures 6 interest types, 6 work values and 16 work styles. Holland's model has been studied in Australia too, including by Taylor, Kelso, Pretty and Power (1980) and Harvey-Beavis (1994), who mapped Australian occupations to RIASEC types. You can read the full explanation in our methodology.
How accurate are the results for students in Australia?
Think of your results as a well-informed starting point, not a prediction. Research on interest measures that use the RIASEC model, such as the O*NET Interest Profiler (Rounds et al., 2010), reports reliability of about .78 to .87, and Australian tools like the AVIS survey (Athanasou, 1986) are built on similar ideas. NexRise™ is a career exploration tool, not a psychological diagnosis, and we don't claim Australian norm tables. Your interests can also change as you try new things, so it's a good idea to retake the quiz and talk your results over with a careers adviser.
Will the quiz tell me to go to uni, TAFE or do an apprenticeship?
No, it won't push you in any one direction. Your report shows occupations that match your interests, strengths and work values, drawn from the O*NET and ESCO databases. From there, you can explore how uni, TAFE, VET in Schools, apprenticeships and traineeships could get you there. For ATAR and course details, check official sources such as Your Career, UAC and VTAC, which are listed in our references.
What happens to my information?
We handle your data in a way that is aligned with the EU GDPR, and our team has worked on this technology since 2017. You can take the quiz without creating an account. You only create one afterwards if you want to save your results and unlock your full report. If you're under 18, we encourage you to chat with your parents or carers before signing up.
